Stanker & Galetto Named General Contractor for Schar USA Groundbreaking for New Facility Held in Logan Township
VINELAND, NJ – Stanker & Galetto, a leading general contracting firm in southern New Jersey, has been selected by Schar USA to build the first U.S. manufacturing facility for this specialty food manufacturer. Schar USA is a division of Italy-based Dr. Schär Srl, Europe’s leading producer of gluten-free products. The company currently manufactures only a few products on a much smaller scale at the Rutgers Food Innovation Center in Bridgeton, NJ.
New Jersey Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno, officials from Schar USA, Stanker & Galetto, Logan Township and Gloucester County attended the groundbreaking ceremony in the Pureland Industrial Park in January. The project is scheduled for completion in early 2012.
“The introduction of the Schar USA plant brings production of a very popular line of gluten-free products to Gloucester County,” says Peter Galetto, President of Stanker & Galetto. “Schar could have chosen any number of locations for this facility, but they chose South Jersey because of the opportunities for company growth, labor development and proximity to transportation.”
Schar USA’s new 50,000 square foot facility in Logan Township will be gluten-free and expandable to up to 80,000 square feet based on projected company growth. Schar plans to invest over $15 million into its new operation and has purchased over eight acres of land in Logan Township. The new manufacturing facility will create more than 50 new jobs.
“This new state-of-the-art gluten-free facility marks yet another important step in Schar’s continued growth in the United States,” says Donna George, President and COO of Schar USA. “As we look to become the U.S. market leader in gluten-free foods and innovation, New Jersey is a perfect location to support our national distribution and growth.”
Dr. Schär Srl, based in Burgstall, Italy, has been developing and producing gluten-free products for over 30 years with the mission of improving the lives of those with celiac disease and related intolerances. The company’s comprehensive portfolio offers a range of products, including breads, rolls, pasta, cookies and crackers and frozen meals. Schar USA was incorporated in 2007 and has introduced over 32 products to the U.S. market.
