DescriptionSenior Housing Community

Benedict's Place is an affordable housing community for senior citizens, located on the campus of the Catholic Church of St. Mary in Cherry Hill, NJ. The 3-story residence features 73 one-bedroom apartments and a manager's apartment. It offers seniors the accommodations needed for independent living, including a community room with storage and kitchen, personal laundry facilities, and a lobby for socializing. The residence also houses administrative offices, two elevators, and mechanical, electrical, and trash rooms.
Special Characteristics and ChallengesThe project was backed by a housing assistance grant from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and has a federal certification as an Energy Star Building. The construction utilizes an "energy wheel" in the attic, which captures waste heat and feeds it back into the building. It was constructed with the Hambro System, featuring structural studs, bar joists, and a metal deck.
"The Diocese of Camden is committed to ensuring that seniors have access to affordable housing that provides adequate shelter and allows them to live with dignity. The Stanker & Galetto team helped the Diocese achieve its goal and delivered a residence in just 14 months that gives low-income seniors a place to call home."
